Drive your own team of huskies! This is an experience out of the ordinary and a must-do for anyone visiting Northern Norway. The dog sled has been used for centuries throughout the Arctic region, mainly for travel, hunting and transportation. Now it’s your chance to get closer to the raw Arctic nature and try this adventurous way of travel.

For this tour you can choose from 4 departure times every day. The 8:15 and 10:05 departures offer a real feel of an Arctic morning. The 11:55 and 13:45 departures offer similar conditions to the early morning tours, but they are perfect for those who want a later start of the day – on the last departure, especially in the shortest days in December, you’ll also get to experience the early Arctic dusk and see how the dogs find their way around the trails even with limited visibility.

All tours depart outside the Scandic Ishavshotel where you will be picked up for a scenic 50-minute transfer to our camp in Breivikeidet. We also offer pickup from Tromsø Camping on the 08:15 departure (all season) and the 10:05 departure (only in high season, December 19 – March 19).

Upon arrival at our camp to Breivikeidet, situated in a picturesque valley close to the sea, you will be welcomed by our friendly staff. We will provide you with polar insulated suits, boots, hats and mittens before heading out on the dogsledding adventure.

Before meeting the huskies, your guide will go through the safety instructions and show you the basics of driving the sled. You don’t need any previous experience: after listening carefully to the demonstration and a few minutes of practice, you’ll enjoy driving on the open fields and inside the forest trails.

Two people will share one sled: one as a driver and the other one as a passenger, and you will get the chance to swap places halfway through the tour, so everyone gets to experience the life of a dog musher, but also have time take all the photographs they want.

After your dog sledding ride and arriving back at the camp, you’ll get the chance to strengthen your bond with your newly made furry friends that had helped you through your adventure and give and receive all the cuddles that you can handle. And once you say farewell to your four-legged companions, you are invited into our lavvo (a traditional sami tent), where you can learn a lot more about the dogs from our knowledgeable guides around a campfire and over some hot drinks and cake. And once you changed back to your normal clothes from the polar suits, and waved one last goodbye to the huskies, you’ll be driven back to the city with an experience of a lifetime behind you and spectacular photos to show for it!
