Dizzying views and a dramatic west Norwegian scenery – even the most experienced hiker can feel the adrenaline rush on Trollstigveien. Explore one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Norway!

The Experience of a Lifetime

Trollstigveien cuts through the rugged west Norwegian nature offering immaculate views along the way. This is a national tourist route stretching over 140 kilometers connecting Valldal in Sunnmøre and Åndalsnes in Romsdalen. Spectacular experiences await in each of the eleven hairpin bends twisting and turning up the mountainside.

Pure Western Norwegian Beauty

Lush valleys, steep mountains and spectacular views – Trollstigen offers a lot of thrills in one area. The stretch includes several highlights, and you will probably feel the adrenaline kick in more than once as you make your way through the sharp turns. Tackle the strech by car, or jump on your bike and battle your way to the top.

Make sure you have enough time to experience everything you want along the way, whether you want to explore the hiking opportunities in the area or just enjoy the view and stop for a photo shoot. Recommended hikes in the area include Bispevannet, and the top of Trollstigen.

The Trollstigen Viewing Platform

The viewing platform hovers 200 meters above Trollstigen and offers fantastic views as far as the eye can see. Follow the walkway and steps up to the platform, seamlessly blending into the surroundings. Feel the wind rock and enjoy the spectacular surroundings.

More Trollstigen Highlights

Trollstigen cafe

By the viewing platform you will also find a cafe where you can treat yourself to a snack or a cup of coffee. Close by you will also find a souvenir shop with local crafts, parking, and lavatories, as well as paths and bridges to the viewing platforms.

Stigfossen

This characteristic waterfall at the top of Isterdalen has a vertical drop of almost 180 metres. The waterfall and the Stigfoss bridge are definitely an eye-catcher and a popular photo stop.

Want to experience Trollstigen by bike? Explore the mountain stretch and get a workout at the same time. The most persistent bikers make their way to the top by raw muscle power, while others opt for an electric bike.

Your Next Hike Begins Here

If you want to experience Trollstigen by foot, we recommend going up Kløvstien. Kløvstien is a varied and spectacular hike that goes from the foot of Trollstigen all the way to the top. This trail has a lot of history, and dates back to the 16th century when people went by horse and hoof from Valldalen to Romsdalsmartnan to trade goods. Here there are endless opportunities to experience the most beautiful and wild things Norway has to offer.

Bispevatnet:
A relatively hike trip to a lake at the foot of Bispefjellet. It takes about an hour to hike to the water and back.

‍Kongen, Dronninga and Bispen: Three well-known peaks neatly lined up next to each other. You can go to Bispen in approx. 3-5 hours, while Kongen is a slightly tougher trip that takes around 6-8 hours to complete. After reaching the royal peak, you can continue to Dronninga (1544 m, 8-10 hours).

In Romsdalen the Mountain experiences never end
In Romsdalen the Mountain experiences never end

‍Stabbeskaret: This six-hour long trip offers a great view down to Romsdalen in the gorge between Stabben and Semletind. This is a trip for more advanced people, and is perfect for those who are used to walking in the mountains.

‍Trollveggen: With Europe's highest vertical drop of approximately 1,000 metres, this is a must see. Fjellveggen is located in Reinheimen National Park.

‍Mannen: "The man". This is a five-hour long hike, with a constant climb from start to finish. The hike starts at the end of Alnesvannet.

Spend the night under the stars

At Trollstigen Gjestegård & Camping you can enjoy a good night's sleep and delicious food in spectacular surroundings. The campsite has a fantastic view of Stigfossen and the nearby mountains. Stop by the coffee shop and treat yourself to food and drink from local suppliers.
