Tromsø

Arctic Fjord Cruise with Brim Explorer

This tour is conducted by Brim Explorer.

Your journey begins as we sail from Tromsø to Holmen Island, a former fishing station later used as a World War II lookout. Here, weather permitting, we deploy our underwater drone to explore Arctic marine life in real time on the onboard screens. We continue past Olavsvern, a Cold War submarine base carved into the mountain. Once one of Norway’s most secret military facilities, it was designed to protect NATO submarines and withstand nuclear threats until its decommissioning in 2002. Next, we cross to Rya Island, where you disembark for a short visit. Explore two small museums, a traditional drying rack, and learn how cod fishing and skrei shaped Northern Norway’s culture and economy. Exhibits include old tools, dried cod, historical photos, and fishermen’s clothing you can examine up close. Before returning on board, enjoy a local tasting featuring dried fish, roe, or another seasonal bite. On the return journey, we cruise by Tromsøya and Håkøya, islands linked to World War II air raids and the sinking of the German battleship Tirpitz.

Enjoy a roundtrip from Tromsø filled with history, coastal culture, and the incredible Arctic scenery!
